Karen's Walk

Karen's Walk is an annual 5K held at RIT, in the Gordon Field House, on February 17th. All proceeds go to the Karen Decker Cardiomyopathy Fund at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Register at www.karenswalk.org.

Karen's Walk is hosted by Phi Sigma Pi and began over 16 years ago when Karen Decker, a close friend of the fraternity passed away from postpartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM), a rare heart disease that affects mostly pregnant women.

Karen was only 22 years old and she left behind her six-week-old daughter, Hannah. In the beginning, Phi Sigma Pi created the Walk for Hannah, meant to raise money toward a college fund for Hannah.

The Walk for Hannah subsequently became Karen's Walk, and has since raised over $25,000 for cardiomyopathy research.
