GRTC PRESIDENT’S LETTER 12.1.22
Welcome to winter. The Holiday Season is once again upon us, we have already seen some snow, and holiday lights and decorations are popping up everywhere. To enjoy the season GRTC is hosting our first Holiday Cookies and Lights fun run in Fairport Village on 12/17/22 as per details below. It promises to be a great evening. Come out to wrap up 2022 and enjoy the Holidays with us in runner style.
WRAP UP OF 2022: The New Year marks the wrap up of the 2022 running season and for GRTC this was good. November finished well with the 4th annual Bound for the Hounds Ultra on 11/19 in Shortsville. 70 runners competed over 6 hours. Winners were John Kohl who ran 36.8 miles in 5:41:55 and Deborah Patterson who ran 34.5 miles in 5:51:55. The 2022 RROY series also finished up in November. 725 participants ran the East Avenue Grocery Run 5K on 11/5. Winners were Jaret Herter overall male (16:32) and Laura Galeazzo overall female (18:43). 325 participants finished the Thanksgiving Day Feast Race on 11/24. The overall male winner was Matthew Herbert (25:19) and overall female winner was Mellissa Johnson-White (30:10). With the RROY series completed look for your own standing on the RROY website : https://rochesterrunneroftheyear.org.. Awards will be given out at our annual awards banquet in 2023 (date and location pending). But do not slack off! The 2023 RROY series will start again in just 3 months with the running of the green race in March 11th! But GRTC is here to help. To maintain your training, sign up today for the 2022/2023 GRTC Freezeroo series below.
HOLIDAY COOKIES AND LIGHTS FUN RUN: 12/17/22 Come join GRTC for an inaugural December fun run/walk to enjoy the holiday lights in Fairport village. We will meet at 4:30 PM at “My Wine and Cheese Bar Too” in Fairport (400 Packetts Landing, Fairport). Plan is to start out at 4:45 pm on a 5K course that will take us along the canal and through the village, ending at “My Wine and Cheese Bar too” for drinks (discount for first drink) and light food to purchase. We will also be hosting a holiday cookie share and exchange there, so bring your best cookies along to enjoy and trade with others. This is an informal free event. See you there to celebrate the holiday season.
FREEZEROO 2022-2023: REGISTRATION ACTIVE The Freezeroo series continues to be a favorite of individuals and the running community. It is definitely a valuable way to keep us all running together and connected through the long upstate New York winter. The The series and individual races have member signup discounts which remain one of the long-established values of GRTC membership. Be sure to sign up for all this season’s races now. Using the same venues as in the past, there are a variety of locations, distances and terrains (something for everyone). Series awards will be given out at the White House Race on 2/18/22. Come out to enjoy the races and get on the podium at the White House run in February.
The first Freezeroo race in just 10 days will again be the Don Curran Memorial on 12/10 in Gates. Come out that morning and help us kick off a new running year in style. This year’s series gift for the first 200 series participants is a running cap with the GRTC logo, so signup today. And if you are not up for the run, but would like to enjoy the fun, we DO still need a few road marshals and volunteers for this and for all the subsequent Freezeroo races. Please let us know right away if you can help out on 12/10 (Djones6703@aol.com) or on any of the subsequent freezeroo races as listed below. Volunteer support of GRTC events is always crucial to making them successful and available to everyone
