GRTC PRESIDENTS LETTER 2.1.22

The attendance for all four of our recently completed Freezeroo races has been great. But……….Freezeroo is not done! We have two races yet for February for you to enjoy and participate in. This weekend on Saturday 2/5 is the Valentine’s Day 8-mile race (in memory of Tom Brannon) from Braddock’s Bay Park in Greece. Remember that, because of the long distance, the regular start is at 9:00 am and early start at 8:30. Then on Saturday 2/19/22 is the White house 4.4-mile race from Webster Park. Details for both races can be found on our website and signup links for the Freezeroo races and GRTC membership (to get discounted rates) are below. Series awards will be given out at the White House Race on 2/19/22. And special thanks to all the many volunteers who remain essential to making this series happen.

Another piece of good news, for those who have struggled with outdoor training on these cold and dark days, is that GRTC has arranged for our members to be able to purchase a membership in and access to the RIT fitness center and RIT’s Gordon field house indoor track. Each individual must set up and pay for their own membership, but RIT has a list of current dues paid GRTC members. This is a great addition to the value of your GRTC membership. Make sure your GRTC membership is up to date to enjoy this benefit.

RIT membership durations are 3 months ($110), 6 months ($220), 9 months ($330), and 12 months ($396) and must be purchased at the RIT Student Life Center main office, open weekdays only from 9:00 AM to 4:00 pm. (Tuesdays and Wednesday till 6:00PM).  Office address: Hale-Andrews Student Life Center 1218, 113 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester NY 14623, 585-475-2620. Full details about all the facilities, hours available, parking and RIT COVID protocols for use can be found at www.rit.edu/criw. Check it out.

-Membership grants access to all Student Life Center and Field House facilities during hours of operation.

-The Gordon Field House track will be closed on certain occasions for events, but notifications of those closures will be posted on-site and track availability can be found on the University Arenas website.

-All members must be *fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (this means two weeks after the final dosage in a respective series. *Please note that at this time we are not requiring COVID-19 booster shots, but these may be required in the future, however.

-Masks are required at all times, including while exercising.

-All provisions outlined under RIT’s COVID Safety Plan should be followed at all times while on campus.

-Please familiarize yourself with RIT’s parking guidelines. A permit is not needed M-F between 5pm and 5am, or on weekends. All admin, handicap, fire lanes, and EV parking areas are still enforced during these times, however.

Again, the winter is in full swing but so are great running events and activities. Come out for the remaining Freezeroo races this year. Check out the option to use the indoor track and exercise facilities at RIT. Come discover the true joy of running in the upstate New York winter. And as always, if you want to continue to have opportunities for running in the Rochester region, come join (or renew your membership in) GRTC. We have a place for you.  A modest $20 yearly membership goes a long way to keeping our sport vibrant and maintaining running events and opportunities for all. See you out on the road.
