Greater Rochester Running Club President’s Letter
August 12, 2024 August 31, 2024
Dear Members and GRRC Followers:
Sometimes things just don’t go as planned! I’ve been trying to get back to this letter since August
12.
I hope everyone has been getting out and getting some miles in one form or another. This letter
recaps July and part of August club activity, highlights upcoming GRRC-related races, events, and
volunteer opportunities, and provides a couple of reminders.
July/Early August Club Recap
1) Jim Moragne was successful in recruiting his successor to the treasurer role. He is still part
of the board until his term ends at the end of January. We appreciate his steadfast efforts to
find someone to fill his shoes and in time to transition smoothly
2) Doug Jones has been speaking with a previously nominated individual about joining the
board to fill one of our vacant partial-term board seats. As the Immediate Past President, he
is the chair of the Nominating Committee.
3) I am delighted to announce Marilee Pryor has accepted the role of Treasurer and is filling
the longer of our two partial terms. She’s got a great deal of experience with such things and
with our running community. The treasurer is part of the Executive Committee.
4) Candlelight and Boilermaker Bus events went well. Keep an eye out for them to open again
toward the end of the year/beginning of the next.
5) The GRRC Summer Clinic is almost over. Next year, we’re likely to see if we can find the
Goldie Locks timing: just right. It’ll probably be a little later than this year and still earlier
than last year.
6) MILEStone Patch Challenge Reminder
Lots of people are on the board! Full update in the September letter. Don’t forget to update
yours with so many happening.
7) GRRC Summer Picnic Rescheduled to a Fall Potluck! It will be Sunday, October 13th. Details
will be in the September letter coming out in a few days.
8) Black Diamond Express, RROY #7 went well and saw racers from all over. The half had 100
finishers.

Volunteerism
RROY Races – Check with races directly; they nearly all need help!
https://rochesterrunneroftheyear.org
GRRC – Want to be part of what keeps bringing people back to our events and attracting new
members to our club? Let me know at president@grtconline.org. Expressing interest doesn’t oblige
you, but it does give us a chance to share what’s involved. You do not have to be a board member
to help with or do the following:
– Equipment Manager (succeeds Jim Moragne)
– Freezeroo Helpers
– Marketing
– Website
– Social Media
– Special Events (Banquet, Picnic, etc.)
– Outreach
– Volunteer at Large
Thank you for being a member or being interested enough to follow us in email and social media.

reasons to become a member, here’s one: learning new things and challenging yourself.
See you out there!
