Welcome to March. Daylight savings time starts in less than 2 weeks on 3/13. Can spring be far behind? We finished out the winter running season with a very successful Freezeroo series. Back after 2 COVID years, the iconic cold weather series lived up to its name for the last 4 races. It also lived up to its reputation as being a great way to get us all together and keep running through the winter. Thanks to everyone who raced and also to those who volunteered their time to make this such a successful “re-entry” for the 2021-22 winter season.
With spring just around the corner, we are also pleased to announce the post COVID return of the Rochester Runner of the Year series. Our new RROY series includes the races below, starting out with the Running of the Green race on 3/12. If you haven’t signed up yet, start off your RROY series with this iconic Rochester classic. As in the past one needs to run 4 races over the year to be eligible for RROY awards, and 6 races gives you a consistent participant award.
GRTC works with individual race directors to promote the RROY series and provides the awards for winners. There are also GRTC discounts for signing up for many of these races. We encourage all GRTC members therefore to participate in as many of these races as possible to support both the individual races and the series. As a GRTC member, consider these YOUR races and a great way to support running in our area. Take advantage of the value your membership gives you with signup discounts as well.

Activities will include awarding of mileage patches for 2021, presentation of the 2022 GRTC Hall of Fame awards to Tim Chichester and Sharon Moore, presentations about the RROY series and GRTC activities and good food, good drink and good fellowship. And don’t forget that GRTC has again arranged for our members to be able to purchase a membership in and access to the RIT fitness center and RIT’s Gordon field house indoor track. This is a great addition to the value of your GRTC membership. RIT membership packages are 3 months ($110), 6 months ($220), 9 months ($330) and 12 months ($396) and must be purchased at the RIT Student Life Center main office, open weekdays only from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Tuesdays and Wednesday till 6:00PM). Office address: 1218, 113 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester NY, 14623 585-475-2620.
Again, spring is just around the corner and so are some great running events and activities. Get a start on the 2022 RROY series with the running of the green on 3/12. Plan on attending our GRTC banquet May 15th. Check out the option to use the indoor track and exercise facilities at RIT. Rediscover this spring the true joy of running in the upstate New York. And as always, if you want to continue to have opportunities for running in the Rochester region, come join (or renew your membership in) GRTC. We have a place for you. A modest $20 yearly membership goes a long way to keeping our sport vibrant and maintaining running events and opportunities for all. See you out on the road.
