Welcome to 2020. Hope everyone has had a really great holiday season. The New Year has started out well for GRTC with a successful New Year’s Resolution Run in Mendon Ponds. Our flagship Freezeroo race, this year was a sunny if windy and cool running day, but fun for all. Our 241 finishers had an excellent run, followed by plenty of good food and conversation. And special thanks to all the many volunteers who remain essential to making this kind of event happen. This New Year’s Resolution race remains a great way to ring in the new running year each January first.
If you missed this race however due to holiday travel and commitments (we won’t bring up hangovers) remember that we have 2 more races for you to run and enjoy in January. Whether you are an “Eastsider” or “Westsider” we have you covered. On 1/11 on the west side we have the Pineway Ponds 5 mile race in Spencerport. This has always been a favorite for years and is run out of Pineway Ponds Park’s new and modern Boecher lodge. Then on 1/25 on the east side we have the Hearnish 5 mile race in Victor. Run out of the updated modern lodge at Victor Municipal Park on Papparone Drive, this has become a new favorite of many in the last few years. Details for both races and the rest of the Freezeroo series can be found on our website, and signup links for the freezeroo races and membership are below.
And coming up also on 1/25 (the evening of the Hearnish 5 mile race) is the annual GRTC awards banquet. This will again be at the Burgundy Basin Inn in Bushnells Basin. We will giving out the RROY awards, recognizing club members in many areas and this year will be honoring the history and accomplishments of the late Bill Kehoe who contributed greatly (and with his unique and special flair) over many years to the Rochester Running scene. The Banquet also includes prizes, good food and drink and camaraderie with other runners that doesn’t exist elsewhere. If you have never been (or have not come out recently) come and find out what a fun event this can be. GRTC’s mission is to facilitate running in the Rochester area, provide racing opportunities and give options for people to meet and network with other runners. Facilitating that mission, the banquet is a great way for you to both see old friends and make new contacts in the running community as well as to find out what is happening in the Club and with running in the Rochester area. Maybe you will hear about a new club activity to get involved with. Maybe you will meet a new runner from your own area. Details of the banquet below.
Hope to see everyone there.
