Sad to say, but it’s getting to be cooler out there. The summer weather is finally fading and the fall running season is in full swing. We hope everyone has had a great summer. The last 4 RROY races are just ahead, and we hope everyone has already had a chance to do some of the series and get on board for awards at the banquet on 1/25/20. If not, it’s not too late to jump in now. The last 4 races include the Finish Strong 15K on 10/12, the Scare Brain Cancer Away 5K on 10/19, the East Avenue Grocery Run on 11/2 and finally the classic for Thanksgiving morning, the Race with Grace 10K on 11/28. A fantastic way to finish the RROY series for 2019.

This month also brings the “jewel in the crown” of the GRTC Ultra Distance Series. The Can Lake 50 mile/50 K/25K race around Canandaigua lake is on 10/12/19. This is a truly beautiful course and unique event. The 25K distance is perfect for those who would like to try out this kind of event but are hesitant to go the whole distance yet. If you are already signed up for any of the distances, good luck. You should be winding up your training now. If you ARE trained for any distance but not signed up yet, its not too late. Sign up for the race at Canlake50.com. If you are not planning on running, but would still like to come out and enjoy the fun, we are still looking for volunteers to help. Contact Gil Robs (Canlake50@gmail.com) and we can find a place for you. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

And with the “cooler season” just ahead (don’t want to use the “W” word yet!) we also have the 2019-20 GRTC Freezeroo series set up. Be sure to save (ALL) the dates for this year’s races now. Using the same sites as last season, there are a variety of distances and terrains (something for everyone). If you would like to come and enjoy the Freezeroo fun, but are not up to the run for any reason, let us know. We are always looking for volunteers for all the races. (Djones6703@aol.com)

And as always, if you want to continue to have opportunities for running in the Rochester region, come join (or renew your membership in) GRTC. We have a place for you. A modest $20 yearly membership goes a long way to keeping our sport vibrant and maintaining running events and opportunities for all. See you out on the road.
