GRTC PRESIDENT’S LETTER 1.1.24
Happy New Year! Hope everyone has had great holidays the last few weeks, and that the New Year is looking hopeful. The first Freezeroo race, the Don Curran in Gates, was a success and a good time on 12/9. 148 runners had a great morning. A good sized group also enjoyed our second annual Holliday lights and Cookies exchange in Fairport on 12/16/23. Weather wise, it hardly seems to be winter yet, but we have some time to go. As I send this out I am hoping you are all signed up for the New Years Resolution 7.5 mile race this weekend at Mendon Ponds Park. This “flagship” GRTC race is always a fitting way to “ring in the new year” as runners. See you all there.
A GRTC MEMBERSHIP GIFT? If you have forgotten a holiday gift, or more importantly just want one yourself, A modest $20 GRTC membership pays for itself and supports running in our region! Get out and do all the RROY series races (a $65 discount value for those doing all). Sign up for our ultra races (discounts for members). Sign up for our spring and/or summer running clinics ($20 off for members). Take advantage of the boilermaker bus and our annual summer picnic. What runner wouldn’t like to receive that as a gift this season!
FREEZEROO SERIES 2023-24: The iconic Freezeroo series continues this weekend with the New Years Resolution race. The Freezeroo has signup discounts which remain one of the long-established values of GRTC membership. It is definitely an important way to keep us all running together and connected through the long upstate New York winter. Sign up for the remaining season’s races today. Using the same venues as in the past, there are a variety of locations, distances and terrains (something for everyone). Format and awards structure are as before and awards will be given out at the White House race. This year we have also added an early start to Webster race.
Come out also and celebrate the GRTC HOF RECIPIENTS FOR 2024:
Doug Jones, for service to the running community as President of GRTC with involvement with the Freezeroo series, track clinic, HOF committee and other tasks over 10 years! (I swear it’s not a “fix job”)
Trish Byler, for her significant running ability, history and accomplishments
