Dear Members and GRRC Supporters:
Welcome new members. This letter contains the July & August club recap, upcoming events, and some club highlights.
July & August Club Recap
- We’ve adopted a conflict-of-interest policy modeled after the Road Runners Club of America’s policy.
- We revised the bylaws to go back to a 5-director quorum as long as at least two officers are present, one of whom must be either the president or the vice president.
- Some board terms are ending on 1/31/2027. We will have no fewer than three positions open for the three-year term. There may be one partial term available, too. The Nominating Committee will open the candidate survey soon. Please consider joining the board. I will have a video Q&A about being on the board on Monday, September 14, 7-8 p.m. and Wednesday, September 16, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Both meetings are accessed by using https://meet.google.com/xjp-bqsd-qev. You do not need to have a Google account or download any software to participate.
- Hall of Fame submissions will open in October. The exact date will be decided after we revise the survey questions, so it is likely toward the end of the month.
- Candlelight was cancelled due to wildfire smoke and extreme weather. Folks had a choice of being refunded or deferred.
- RROY Series races Jungle Jog, IECX, and Black Diamond Half all occurred since the last letter and had good participation.
- The GRRC Summer Picnic & Membership Meeting had a good showing with folks taking advantage of roads and trails. Some of us ventured out include a visit to Wild Wings Center. No one went home hungry and runners and non-runners alike enjoyed a round of trivia where a tasty bag of trail mix was on the line for the person who got the most correct.
- The board has created a $2,000 sponsorship fund and is establishing criteria for vetting and processing opportunities. For the pilot year, we will limit the sponsorships to a maximum of $500. In the recent past, our financial sponsorship has been limited to McMullen Mile and RIT’s Try-a-Tri. This lets people know we are open to more and, once the process is finalized, give them a way to initiate the process. Unlike a grant, sponsorships provide funding in exchange for club promotion and visibility. They also don’t involve the legal and administrative headaches that grants do.
- In the same vein, we’re separating GVH McMullen Mile registrations from the GRRC Spring Track Clinic registrations. We used to pay for everyone’s registration to the race. While clinic participants once signed up with the idea of running a one-mile race at the end, the number of participants who do that now continued to dwindle. Now, interested parties will register on their own directly with GVH. The clinic will continue to line up with the race and clinic participants will continue to get GRRC membership included in their registration. The club has largely kept registration costs the same even while other costs, including the race, have gone up.
- MILEStone Recap: The top three remain the same, but with higher mileage. Bill Murphy has attained Platinum status while Jean-Paul Scott is about to trip over the line for his gold patch.
- Jennifer Toti, 232:56:29 covering 897.11 miles
- Bruce Carter, 126:00:38 covering 691.786 miles
- Jill Carter, 129:09:30 covering 672.246 miles
