Christina Ruhland: I joined GRTC through encouragement by my sister. She is actively involved in the running community and I loved the connections she had. A way to get connected was to join her in being part of GRTC. I became a member several years ago and enjoyed running the Freezeroo series to keep the running incentive alive through the winter. The more I participated in running events and GRTC sponsored events, I was encouraged to take that next step and be more involved. Joining the GRTC Board as a Member at Large for the first year and then becoming the Equipment Manager has been great. I got to see first-hand what was involved in being a Race Director, how it is not just showing up and telling people “Ready, Set, Go”. I have a much deeper appreciation for all volunteers. It truly takes volunteers to make many things successful. I also had a chance to voice opinions and suggestions on future GRTC activities. I really enjoyed taking pictures of the runners in the Freezeroo races in years past.
Shea Coleman: Shea Coleman has been a runner in the Rochester community since 2012. Shea enjoys trail running and has completed several ultramarathons, with distances ranging from 50k to 100 miles. Shea also enjoys multi-sport activities and participates in running, biking, and swimming whenever she can. Although Shea enjoys racing and finding out what she is capable of, it is even more common to see her on the sidelines volunteering and helping her fellow athletes achieve their goals. Shea’s plans include becoming more involved in orienteering and adventure racing. When Shea is not testing her physical limits, she enjoys relaxing on her small farm with pet pigs, horses, dogs, and cats.
Mark Mills: My name is Mark Mills & I do not really consider myself a “runner”, although it has been my main outdoors sports pastime for the last 10 yrs. I haven’t been fast since primary school times (always won the 100 yd. dash) but I seem to be able to go long. I ‘ve always been into outdoor sports, starting with road racing bicycles in 1974 & continuing w/ rock climbing (my lifelong love), mountain bike racing, XC ski marathon racing & mini-sprint car racing. In 2010 I got tired of being out of shape, so I decided to run, started with trying to make it between telephone poles in April & worked up to my first marathon 7 months later in Harrisburg, PA. Since then, I just tried to run as many races as I can, doing marathons in 18 states from coast to coast. I love using running as an excuse to travel. I am mainly a trail guy but still love road-racing. I have completed dozens of ultras up to & including four 100 milers. Of course, I have enjoyed running all the local series races, most several times. I have volunteered at many ultras & the Corporate Challenge races between runs. Looking thru 179 bibs I have saved over 9 yrs. of running has brought back so many great memories. Health issues have held my back since early 2019 but I’m determined to run long again beginning with my first 50 yd. run last weekend. I am looking forward to helping out the running scene in any capacity & seeing all the fellow runners I’ve come to know & respect.
Martha Doody: I have lived in this area my whole life and therefore am very connected. I have been running now for about 10 years. In that time, I have gone from a 5ker to an ultramarathoner. I’ve RD’d a couple of races and volunteered at a couple as well. I have worked the last couple of years at Medved and only left because of life changes and COVID. I absolutely love pushing my limits and I love helping others push theirs just as much! I am a big picture gal. I can handle details when I need to, but I work very well with detail-oriented folks who cannot always see the panoramic view. Ultimately, I believe we have a spectacular running community and I want to be a part of keeping it alive and well!
Ted Thull: Having moved to Rochester in 1988, and just beginning to dabble into the sport of running, there were several things people suggested I needed to participate in if wanting to accel and increase my running knowledge: 1) run with the noontime Kodak group, 2) run with the Oven Door Saturday group (since I lived out that way), and 3) join the Greater Rochester Track Club. I have been a member of GRTC ever since, and have enjoyed the newsletters, the Freezeroos, the year-end banquet awards ceremonies, and other sponsored events numerous times. I think you will find that most folks in the Rochester running community know me, and that I have accumulated a pretty good range of race experiences and successes over the years. Having been on the GRTC sidelines up to now, the call for volunteers on the Board of Directors got me thinking that it is past time to help and give back to the organization and the sport. Please throw my name in the hat for helping on the Board. I would be honored to serve.
